Red Arrows in Formation with Blue Click PR
July 19th 2003 - International Air Tattoo, Fairford, Gloucester UK - The unique sight of a USAF F-117A stealth fighter flying in formation with the Red Arrows provided one of the many highlights at this year's Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. The stealth fighter, flown by former Red Arrow Sqn Leader Richie Matthews, flew for the first time in formation with a non-US aircraft.
The Red Arrows had just touched down after this one-off, never to be repeated flypast with the Stealth Fighter and the press photocall was billed as 'Friends Reunited'. As part of the press corp, Rhona Jack from Blue Click PR was taking photos for despatch to the national newspapers. The Stealth Fighter pilot was being interviewed for radio so whilst waiting for him to take up his position centre stage, Rhona requested a moment in the spotlight with heroes from her childhood - and the smile on her face tells the story!
Seen here ranked in their flying formation, the officers were happy to oblige for the camera. Then other members of the press also broke ranks to ask for their pictures to be taken with the pilots. To crown the moment, the Red Arrows were kind enough to autograph Rhona's picture making it an absolutely unique keepsake. A fine addition to the office wall along with her published poem about the last Olympic rowing race autographed by Sir Steve Redgrave CBE.
Rhona commented 'Sometimes you just see an opportunity and you have to have the courage to reach out and ask. The Red Arrows could easily have said no - but if you have the nerve, people will often say yes. It's a bit like spotting opportunities in business. They only exist for a very short time so you have to be bold. The risks are high, but the rewards are even higher!'
