PR Consultant for BBC Local Heroes Documentary & BBC Local Radio

Feb 2004, Swindon - Blue Click PR Ltd. was approached by BBC Radio Swindon and asked if we would comment on the Local Heroes campaign they are running. The BBC needed a PR consultant to comment on how someone starts as Mr. or Miss Jo average and goes on to become a celebrity such as Melinda Messenger. Radio listeners are being asked to vote for their favourite on the website www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire

Rhona Jack, Managing Director comments 'My initial reaction was to say no because I consider myself a 'back-room boy'. Our job is to create opportunities for our clients and I'm shy - I actually don't like having my picture taken! However, I also recognised it was a golden opportunity - one you don't get offered every day - so I had to say 'yes'.'

Do Your Research
Rhona was invited in for a 3-minute interview on the mid-morning show. She researched the subject and had a few ideas. As it turned out, the radio presenter liked the ideas and kept Rhona in the hot seat for 45 minutes talking about Local Heroes in between the news, weather and occasional records. The debate touched on wide-ranging subjects and the audience participated with text, phone and email messages.

Rhona comments 'There's an old saying 'Chance favours the prepared mind'. I'm glad I said yes to the interview because it led to other things.'

Right Place, Right Time
On the day, she discovered there was a TV camera filming the radio interview for BBC TV Points West. Afterwards, the BBC producer of the winner's 40 min documentary asked Rhona to represent the PR industry and comment on the regional winner of Local Heroes. Filming is due to take place on 20th Feb with the programme likely to be screened in early March 2004.
