Maidenhead, Berkshire, UK, 4th May 2001 - Horizon MTS are delighted to announce their selection by Cisco to host the only commercial Cisco Service Provider (SP) packet telephony training lab in the UK. Specialising in packet telephony solutions, Horizon MTS have worked with Cisco during the past 18 months to develop and deliver a range of SP training programmes. Cisco’s decision to partner Horizon MTS to host this lab, supports their position as a leading-edge technology training partner.
Peter Olive, Worldwide Director for Horizon MTS, commenting on this unique installation at Horizon MTS’ new flagship training centre in Maidenhead, remarks, "Cisco chose the United Kingdom because it has a major presence here with some of their biggest customers based in the UK, so it seemed a logical location.
Regarding the technical understanding and ability of instructors, Peter continues “Cisco specifically chose Horizon MTS because we had the technical talent required to successfully deliver Cisco packet telephony training. These solutions are at the epicentre of data & voice convergence and are complex. Horizon MTS has demonstrated that it has the ability to deliver high-quality training classes for these complex solutions.”

Cisco Packet Tandem Solution
These courses reflect Cisco Open Packet Telephony (OPT) - an architecture for New World voice solutions for Service Providers. Cisco packet telephony solutions are based on distributed architectures that include call agents, such as the Cisco SC2200 and Cisco VSC3000, and gateways, like the Cisco AS5300. Also included in this new world architecture are new world technologies, such as H.323, SIP, and MGCP; as well as old world technologies like SS7/C7.
The Cisco SS7 Interconnect for Access Servers solution offloads modem-based traffic from the public switched telephone network to an IP network.
The Cisco SS7 Interconnect for Voice Gateways Solution is part of Cisco's Wholesale Voice Solutions, which consist of a suite of voice-ready gateways, gatekeepers, and application servers that provide H.323-based VOIP networks.
Both of these solutions connect legacy telecommunications equipment and technologies with Cisco's IP enabled platforms to provide seamless connections between the old world and the new.
